Poem, The Covenant

I was on the ark the day God cried;
His tears were rain that filled the sky.
He cried for sins of all mankind.
They killed the good.  They crossed the line.
Only we listened and believed
All His words that set us free.

To start anew, we took a zoo
With lions, sheep, and hippos too.
Two by two we brought them on
Or else they would all now be gone.
7s if clean, and 2 of the rest,
We took only the very best.

For 40 days the water flowed.
For 10 more months we stayed onboard.
We sent a crow and then a dove
To search the water from above.
The dove returned with just a leaf,
Then flew away - to our relief.

Safe to leave, we thanked the Lord,
Then opened up our wooden doors.
Dry land at last. We kissed the Earth.
That flood had been the very worst.
The Lord agreed and said, "No more.
As proof I'll let a rainbow soar."

Its reds and golds and blues and greens
Give me hope and fuel my dreams.
A proof of truth that God won't lie.
A proof of love across the sky.
The Lord keeps every word he makes.
I know He'll never us forsake.
